"His sitar had all the characteristics of a human voice. It was as if one were being spoken to in a foreign tongue whose words, magically, were being made instantly clear." -- The New York Times, Nov. 10, 1994

"Manilal exemplifies the 'younger generation' of sitarists, eclectically drawing from the styles of the established masters while clearly retaining the strong flavor and delicate shadings of his family's heritage." -Frets

"What Raga Records has accomplished yet again is to pair a superb performance with a text essential to any listener interested in India's highest musical expression." -Allan Evans, Fanfare

MANILAL NAG is recognized in serious music circles as one of the most talented and serious exponents of classical sitar. He comes from a family of musicians who have evolved the Vishnupur Gharana, a style of music that originated nearly 300 years ago. He is a master of improvisation and possesses the rare ability to breathe life and originality into a classical theme, thereby molding it into a living and captivating form.

RAY SPIEGEL has been a disciple of the greatest Tabla exponents of the Punjab Gharana-Ustad Alla Rakha and his son, Ustad Zakir Hussain-since 1973 and has performed in the U.S. and India as both accompanist and soloist.
